Cobec In The Community.

Cobec dedicates resources to giving back to the community, and our approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is integrated into our culture with an active committee and regular activities.

From Rock Creek Park clean-ups, to school and household supply and food drives, and a partnership supporting homework help and more at Horton’s Kids—we show up consistently and with dedication.

We start locally and expand to encompass our global impact. Cobec works to make sustainable, environmentally friendly choices ranging from aiming to be a paperless operation, choosing reusable over disposable kitchen ware, to utilizing technology to streamline and reducing our carbon footprint in our LEED® certified DC HQ building.

What does Corporate Social Responsibility mean to Cobec?

Cobec considers the benefit to business and the benefit to society when making choices, decisions, and taking action.

  • Philanthropic Responsibility: Be a good corporate citizen. Contribute resources to the community and aim to improve quality of life.

  • Ethical Responsibility: Be ethical. Avoid harm. Do what is right, just, and fair.

  • Legal Responsibility: Obey the law and play by the rules of the game. Law is societies codification of right and wrong.

  • Economic Responsibility: Be profitable. This is the foundation of all other responsibilities.

Meet the CSR Committee.

The CSR Committee identifies, organizes, implements, and reviews CSR programs and policies on behalf of Cobec leadership.

The CSR activities enhance and serve the communities in which we live and work and address issues that impact quality of life. Community is not defined as just the local community, but may encompass the global community. We recognize that participating in giving activities enriches the lives of our people.

Horton’s Kids

Cobec Employee, Sriram Krishnan, volunteers at Horton’s Homework Help.

Horton’s Kids is Cobec’s primary CSR partner. Cobec employees volunteer and participate in school supply drives, gift-wrapping marathons for the holidays, and after-school homework help, among other events.

Horton’s Kids empowers more than 500 youth in grades K-12 living in Wellington Park & Stanton Oaks – neighborhoods that have been profoundly impacted by decades of disinvestment and barriers to opportunity. The goal: improve their academic outcomes, develop important character traits, and access healthy meals.

The graduation rate for Horton’s Kids participants is twice the neighborhood average. June 2022 marked the sixth consecutive year that 100% of seniors enrolled in Horton’s Kids programs have graduated from high school.

“Cobec is always eager to support Horton’s Kids throughout the year whenever we need volunteers. Their team has shown up for our academic programs, holiday gift wrapping, and special events at our Wellington Park and Stanton Oaks Community Resource Centers with smiles on their faces. They also support Horton’s Kids to directly fuel our comprehensive programs in these two under-resourced communities in Southeast DC with financial support. Horton’s Kids is grateful for our longstanding partnership with Cobec!”

Cobec provides a range of money, resources, and support to various organizations.

Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.
